Country Subdivisions

Terms for region-related properties within the Schema.org vocabulary.

Several properties within the Schema.org vocabulary are intended to describe regions (territories, subdivisions). For validation purposes, we attempt to match them with real-world country subdivisions. Typically, they should be referenced using one of the following methods, but refer to individual properties for official details.

  • ISO 3166-2 code — e.g. US-CA for California, CH-FR for Freiburg
  • Localized Name — e.g. California, Freiburg

We may rely on country and locale information to resolve these references. For example, if a property has a directly-related addressCountry property, we may use that information to further qualify and validate region names.
